Learn about the University of Nebraska - Lincoln and the Animal Science Department
"What do you want to do when you finish high school?" You've probably heard that a lot. Everywhere you turn, you are asked about your future....."What are you plans? Where are you going to college? What do you want to major in?"
Whether you're ready to begin making these decisions or whether you are still exploring all your options, this trip to UNL's East Campus offers a great opportunity to learn more about university life and about animal science.
The careers available to an Animal Scientist today are much more diverse and exciting than you might think. It's certainly not just "cows and plows". Although some graduates of UNL's Animal Science Department do go into farming or ranching, over 50% of graduates enter careers related to animals or animal products, but are not involved in direct livestock production. Examples of these careers include: meat product development, nutrition consultant, animal health product sales, public relations coordinator for animal organizations, and many others. Another 20 - 25% of graduates go on to advanced education in graduate school, veterinary school and even law school. The Animal Science Department offers or will soon offer study options in seven different areas, including:

* Animal Biology
* Production & Management
* Meat Science
* Business
* PreVeterinary Animal Sciences
* Equine Science
* Companion Animal Science
